Mons Pubis Liposuction

A figure that wows has curves and dips in all the right places. The wrong curve in the wrong place, though, can impact your self-confidence and limit your clothing choices to ones that hide or disguise the unsightly bulge. Such is the case for those who have excess fat in their mons pubis or pubic area.

The mons pubis, the soft mound of fatty tissue that covers your pubic bone just above the labia, can be a lean part of your silhouette that no one notices. A pronounced pubic bone, aging, genetics, fibrous tissue or excess fat can cause your mons pubis to protrude, creating a lump that may affect how comfortably your clothes fit and make you feel self-conscious or worried about wearing tight clothing, such as a yoga pants or a swimsuit. Mons pubis liposuction can remove the extra fat for a sleeker figure and greater confidence.

Twin Cities female plastic surgeon Dr. Jennifer Harrington of Harrington + Associates Plastic Surgery specializes in gynecological plastic surgery, helping women feel better about their appearance. From her office in Plymouth, Dr. Harrington serves the Twin Cities as well as outlying communities including Minnetonka, Wayzata, St. Cloud and Sartell.

Why Consider Mons Pubis Liposuction

For most women, extra fat is the culprit that causes an enlarged mons pubis. Stubborn fat that doesn’t respond to diet and exercise can gather in the pubic region, creating a disproportionate mons pubis that may be embarrassing.

Fat can also accumulate in the labia majora, increasing the labia to an uncomfortably large size. Women who have a larger mons pubis tend to have extra fat in the labia majora too. Liposuction can be an effective and welcome solution for excess fat in the vulva and pubic region through labia majora reduction and mons pubis liposuction.

Your Mons Pubis Liposuction Procedure

Mons pubis liposuction starts with tiny, discreetly placed incisions that should fade to barely noticeable scars. For even better camouflage, Dr. Harrington typically hides the incisions in the crease of your groin. Working through these incisions, Dr. Harrington inserts a thin, flexible tube called a cannula into the mons pubis. She then moves the tube back and forth to loosen the excess fat and suction it out for a smoother, flatter contour.

Mons pubis liposuction is typically performed as an outpatient procedure at Dr. Harrington’s start-of-the-art office in Plymouth or an accredited surgical facility. For your comfort, Dr. Harrington uses IV sedation, local or general anesthetic. The procedure takes between 20 to 40 minutes depending on how much fat is removed. You should be able to go home and begin recuperating soon after your mons pubis liposuction.

Mons Pubis Liposuction Recovery

You may have some bruising, swelling and discomfort immediately after mons pubis liposuction. You should be able to return to work and resume your normal activities after about a week. If your job isn’t physically demanding, you may be able to go back to work after a couple days. You may be restricted from participating in strenuous activities for 6 weeks though.

To help minimize swelling, Dr. Harrington may recommend wearing a support or compression garment for 2 to 3 weeks. As you recover, keep in mind that your final results may not be visible until the swelling fully resolves, which happens gradually over about 3 weeks.
