Labiaplasty, or vaginal plastic surgery, refers to a variety of surgical procedures that are used to enhance the appearance and functionality of the female genital area – more specifically, the labia. As a woman and an extremely skilled labiaplasty Minneapolis / St. Paul plastic surgeon, Dr. Harrington is passionate about helping women enhance their vaginal beauty, restore their femininity and boost their self-confidence.
The labia are comprised of two folds of skin that surround the vulva: the labia minora (the smaller, innermost part of the labia, which also cover the clitoris) and the labia majora (the larger, outermost part of the labia). The shape, size and color of the labia vary from one woman to another. In fact, the vagina is one of the most unique and feminine body parts.
Because of the unique anatomy of the female external genital structures, some women feel that their labia are too large, asymmetrical and/or aesthetically unappealing. The anatomy of the labia is usually hereditary but can also change over time due to aging, childbirth and hormonal medication. Thus, vaginal rejuvenation surgery is performed to enhance the aesthetics of the labia and reduce genital pain associated with enlarged vaginal lips.
In order to address both the cosmetic and medical concerns of her Minneapolis / St. Paul vaginal rejuvenation patients, Dr. Harrington offers:

Dr. Harrington and her all-female vaginal plastic surgery team have years of experience and intimate knowledge of the female genital anatomy. They develop individualized treatment plans to help their patients improve their unique feminine beauty.
Labiaplasty surgery is usually performed on an outpatient basis at an accredited surgical facility or in Dr. Harrington's new state-of-the-art office and can last from one to two hours. It is best to perform the procedure just after the patient has had her monthly period. Before the surgery, IV sedation or local anesthetic is administered to block nerve signals and control bleeding. Dr. Harrington then skillfully trims and reshapes the labial tissue using small, inconspicuous incisions and sophisticated surgical tools. The wounds are closed with dissolvable sutures, and the patient is free to leave within an hour after surgery.
Immediately after labiaplasty surgery, patients may experience mild bruising, swelling and bleeding, which generally subside within five to seven days. Any discomfort can be controlled with pain medicine, and patients are able to return to work and other daily activities within three to four days. However, strenuous physical activity, including intercourse, should be avoided for four to six weeks. In order to ensure a smooth and comfortable recovery, Dr. Harrington and her all-female plastic surgery team will provide you with detailed postoperative instructions and will be available should you have any questions and/or concerns during the healing process. Follow-up appointments are scheduled to ensure proper healing.
At her all-female staffed plastic surgery clinic, Dr. Harrington offers a range of other cosmetic and reconstructive procedures for the face, body and breasts. To learn more, please visit www.harringtonplasticsurgery.com.
